Dr. and Mrs. Martin O. Miller Library Collection in Science

The Dr. and Mrs. Martin O. Miller Library Collection in Science was established in 1979. Dr. Miller, a prominent member of the New Orleans community, was a member of Notre Dame’s College of Science Advisory Council. Edna was a member of the Notre Dame Women’s Advisory Council. The Millers had eight children, including two sons who graduated from Notre Dame: Pierre “Val” (’59) and Martin “M.O.” in (’66).

M.O., who established this endowment with his mother, earned his law degree from Tulane University in 1969 and is a sole practitioner in Metairie, Louisiana. He also manages property along the Louisiana coast. M.O. currently serves on the Notre Dame Law School Advisory Council. He and his wife, Diane, have two daughters and a son.

Dr. Miller’s life was devoted to science; thus, it is fitting that the library collection in his memory supports and enhances teaching, study, and research in the sciences. The Miller Endowment plays a vital role in developing strong science collections in applied mathematics, biology, chemistry, mathematics, and physics. It has supported subscriptions to Nature journals, SciFinder Scholar, and the BioOne journal package. Also acquired have been such titles as The Chemical Abstract Index, an indispensable but exceedingly costly research tool, and Biological Abstracts on CD-ROM, a valuable tool for searching biological literature.
