John S. Jackoboice Family Endowment in Memory of Mary Ann Jackoboice

The John S. Jackoboice Family Endowment in Memory of Mary Ann Jackoboice was established in 1995 by John (’66) as a tribute to his late wife. Mary Ann (Wheaton) was a graduate of Saint Mary’s College and Indiana University. She and John married in 1967 and had three children, William (’90), John II (’92), and Ann (’97). Mary Ann passed away in 1993 after a 17-year battle with cancer. John is the retired chair of Monarch Hydraulics Inc., in Grand Rapids, Michigan. At Notre Dame, he serves on the Hesburgh Libraries Advisory Council and has also contributed to the Jackoboice Family Collection in Journalism.

This endowment, dedicated to Mariology, has allowed for the purchase of holdings surrounding the study of Our Lady. Significant acquisition of monographs that document the role of Mary in the systematic theology of the Roman Catholic Church, as well as studies of her emergence in the early tradition of the Church and her veneration in the development of popular piety, have been made possible through the Jackoboice Endowment’s support. Additionally, a comprehensive collection of materials documenting the many apparitions of Mary during the last century and a half has been acquired.

Exciting recent additions to the collection include an extremely rare early title on the Immaculate Conception, Motivi proposti a fedeli di ogni stato per onorare l’immacolata concezione di Maria SS (1743), and Angelo Amato’s Maria la Theotokos, which is a genuine manual of Mariology that covers a wide variety of doctrinal topics.
