Paul F. & Suzanne Mattes Coash Endowed Library Collection in Architecture

Honoring Lee H. Mattes

The Paul F. and Suzanne Coash Endowed Library Collection in Architecture, Honoring Lee H. Mattes, was established in 2000 by Notre Dame alumnus Paul Coash and his wife Suzanne. The Coash Collection is funded through a charitable remainder trust honoring Suzanne’s father, the late Lee H. Mattes (’24). It will also support a scholarship.

A South Bend, Indiana, native, Lee attended Notre Dame before joining Mastic Corporation. He served as director of the National Bank of South Bend, and the Aluminum Manufacturing Association, and was a charter member of the South Bend Country Club. Lee passed away in 1988.

Paul Coash attended Notre Dame before going on to graduate from Kalamazoo College in 1957. Paul is retired from Anderson and Son Inc. and is the founder of Source One Inc. Now living in Naples, Florida, Paul and Suzanne have four children: Todd, Julie, Patsy, and Matthew (’86). Paul and Suzanne are members of the Badin Guild.

The Coash Endowment will benefit Notre Dame’s School of Architecture, enhancing library resources in architectural history, design, and theory, as well as structural mechanics and building technology. This endowment stands to greatly enhance the Hesburgh Libraries’ acquisition of resources which support the scholarship and research of students in the School of Architecture.
