Sarjit Singh MD Endowment for International Peace Studies

The Sarjit Singh MD Endowment for International Peace Studies was established in 1996 by Iona Rumble Singh and Raja Singh (’91), in memory of their husband and father.

Born in India, the late Dr. Sarjit Singh served as chairman of the cardiology department and the critical care committee, and director of the electrocardiography department, for the McLaren Regional Medical Center in Flint, Michigan. He also served as a member of the United Nation’s World Health Organization and was honored by the Michigan International Council for his contributions to world understanding, development, and peace.

Iona graduated from A.B. Hepburn School of Nursing in 1947. Raja earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and completed a concentration in peace studies at Notre Dame.

The Singh Endowment is a critical resource for the students and faculty of the Joan B. Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies. It provides for subscriptions to important foreign newspapers; current events journals; statistical compendia; government documents, such as parliamentary debates; and documents of various international organizations, especially those active in areas such as human rights and refugee issues. It has also assisted in providing access to a number of electronic databases of particular value to researchers in various areas of international studies.
