Rev. Edward A. Malloy, C.S.C., General Library Endowment

The Rev. Edward A. Malloy, C.S.C., General Library Endowment was established in 2007 when, in grateful recognition of Notre Dame’s 16th president, the University’s general library endowment was named in his honor. Father Malloy, or Monk as he is affectionately known, embodies the University’s mission to educate students academically, athletically, and spiritually. A member of the Notre Dame faculty since 1974, Monk served the University in various roles before being elected President in 1987, an office in which he served until 2005. During his entire Notre Dame career, Father Malloy has lived in Sorin Hall, where he still resides today.

Just as Monk is diverse in his talents, the Rev. Edward A. Malloy, C.S.C., General Library Endowment is varied in its benefits. The fund is an extraordinarily useful and flexible for Notre Dame. With it, the Hesburgh Libraries continue to acquire materials in a wide range of subjects, books that relate to multiple disciplines, and resources of all kinds that support developing areas of inquiry at the University. This special endowment has grown as a result of countless gifts from a diverse group of friends of Notre Dame, all of whom are connected through their love of this University and its Libraries. Now their gifts will concurrently advance the educational mission of Notre Dame while honoring one of its extraordinary leaders, a man who continues his commitment to learning by pledging “to learn as much as I can about as much as I can for as long as I can.”
