Edward W. Devine Library Collection in Economics

The Edward W. Devine Library Collection in Economics was established in 1994 by Edward W. Devine, a Notre Dame graduate who also earned an MBA degree from New York University.

Ed’s long-standing career in investment banking and corporate finance has included positions with several top tier investment banks. At Notre Dame, he serves as a member of the Hesburgh Libraries Advisory Council. Ed’s wife Sharon, a graduate of Barry University, is senior vice president for General Vision Services, and serves on Notre Dame’s Performing Arts Advisory Council. The Devines share time between New York City and Scottsdale, Arizona. In addition to their library collection, Ed and Sharon have also supported scholarship aid, the performing arts, and the Snite Museum.

The Devine Library Collection has enabled the Hesburgh Libraries to expand print and electronic collections in the fields of international economics, economic development, and globalization, and has allowed significant updates to the University’s holdings in economics journals. These resources are crucial to the work of those students pursuing excellence and discovery in the social sciences, and will be central to the University’s development of a new undergraduate degree program in international economics. As Notre Dame student and faculty researchers seek to understand and gain further insight into human behavior, and cultivate innovation that will serve mankind, the Devine Endowment is a vital resource that will advance their important work.
