John L. Hoeck General Library Endowment

The John L. Hoeck General Library Endowment was established in 1978 by the late John L. Hoeck (’48) and his wife, Anne. John was chairman of the board of United Mercantile Agencies, Inc., where he had worked since 1948. At Notre Dame, he served on the Hesburgh Libraries Advisory Council from 1982 until he passed away in 2012. Anne served the Libraries alongside John during those years and was appointed to the council in 2013. She is also a member of the Badin Guild. The couple had three children: Gregory (’72), Joan, and Beverly.

Unrestricted endowment funds allow the Hesburgh Libraries the flexibility to support the mission of the University of Notre Dame and to react immediately and effectively as its academic offerings evolve and develop. With ongoing support from the Hoeck Endowment, the Hesburgh Libraries are able to continue to deepen and expand offerings, enhancing the scholarship of the Notre Dame community. This endowment is allowing Notre Dame to offer unparalleled access to digitized collections, electronic subscriptions to the leading professional journals, and cutting-edge services that assist students, faculty, and researchers and enrich the breadth of their learning, teaching, and research.

The Hoecks have also supported the Thomas and Marcia Blum Family Library Collection for American Catholic Intellectual Thought
