Mahaffey Business Library

The Mahaffey Business Library was established in 1995 through the estate of Thomas Mahaffey Jr. (’33). In 1962, Tom started a family venture, the Mahaffey Company, with sons James and Mark (’66). The company developed rental apartment communities of more than 12,000 units in central Florida and Indianapolis, Indiana. Tom has been called the patriarch of Florida developers and attributed his self-discipline to Knute Rockne, for whom he played football at Notre Dame. Tom and his wife, Jane, had two sons and two daughters.

The support provided by this endowment is essential in maintaining the Mahaffey Business Library. The Hesburgh Libraries established the innovative, all-electronic library to support the undergraduate curriculum, existing and emerging graduate programs, and faculty research in the Mendoza College of Business (a program widely recognized among the top in the nation). The state-of-the-art library includes individual workstations, group-learning areas, and adjacent offices for personnel. This fund supports the space’s continued upgrades and advancement. Recently, the Mahaffey Business Library was repainted and state-of-the-art projection displays were installed, making it even more inviting, useful, and efficient.
