Thomas and Mary L. Marcuccilli Family Endowed Collection in Civil War History

The Thomas and Mary L. Marcuccilli Family Endowed Collection in Civil War History was established in 1997 by James and Thomas Marcuccilli in honor of their parents. Thomas was a flight instructor in the Army Air Corps in World War II. He went on to be the officer, director, and founding partner of Marion Trucking Co. He was also the officer, director, and shareholder in several banks that are now under name STAR Financial Bank. Thomas and Mary had seven children.

Jim (’73) is president and CEO of STAR Financial Bank. At Notre Dame, he is a member of the College of Science Advisory Council. He and his wife, Patrice, have three children: Morgan (’03), Kristin (’05, ’08 MBA), and Thomas. Jim’s brother, Tom, is president of STAR Financial Group Inc. He and his wife, Joan, have five children: Meagan (’99), Kathryn (’07), Jennifer, Meredith, and Matthew.

The Marcucilli Endowment continues to support the University’s expanding collection of original Civil War manuscript material, maintaining a history of individual military units, both Union and Confederate. From these funds four soldiers’ diaries and some exceptional letters have been acquired. Additionally, the Civil War website continues to expand, which makes it possible for students to access materials at any time, from any computer. In addition, a broader range of materials dealing with the social and economic impact of the war on individual regions and towns have been purchased.

The Marcuccilli Family has also supported the Jordan Hall of Science and the Compton Family Ice Arena.
